Optical fiber color codes and their use:

Color codes are mentioned on the fiber optics to identify the connectors, cables, and fibers. These color codes present on the fiber optics cable help the technician to perform the splicing process on the cables. Color codes are specially used while making the connections by splicing. Each splice tray holds 72 splices so colored buffer tubes and colored fiber arrangements are used to keep all connections correct. It becomes easy with the help of these color codes to identify the semiconductor connectors. In some cases, the color codes also helps to align the spherical lenses and flat optics, just like they perform in pfg optics.

Outer jacket color code:

Printed outer jackets or colored are used on thee the exterior part of the fiber cables, e.g., fiber optic patch cords, fiber distribution cables, etc. In EIA/TIA-598, the color codes of fiber optics are used in jacket color codes for different fiber types. So, the optical fiber cable which consists of only one type of fiber that we can easily identify by the color of the jacket; unless otherwise specified, the outer jacket of a premises cable containing more than one fiber type shall use a printed legend to identify the amount and type of fiber within the cable, for example, 12 Fiber 8 x 50/125, 4 x 62.5/125.

Other than the jacket color codes that are specified in the color code standard, we can also use some other colors to tell the classification of fiber. Manufacturers and users both should agree while using such colors.

Inner Cable Organizational Fiber Color Code:

Inside of a multi-fiber cable, Individual fibers also conform to the fiber color code. They are often different from one another by color-coded jackets, As per the EIS/TIA-598, The inner fibers are color-coded into groups of 12 fibers and are numbered in a clockwise direction.

There exist two cases for the multi-fiber cables-

For cables that contain multiple buffer tubes with 12 or fewer strands, each tube must be numbered or colored after the same fiber color code, for example, the first tube is blue, the second is orange, etc. For the cables that have more than 12 strands, the color code of fiber optic starts repeating itself. For example, there are 24 strand groups with repeating fiber color codes with some variation, for example, the first group of 12 strands is a solid color and the second group is a solid color with a stripe or some other identity there are signs.
